Skin Care – Basics That You Have to Know
Achieving healthy skin does not have to be complicated. All it takes is a good skin care routine, and skin care products that are right for your skin type. Here are the basic steps to skin care.
Cleanse
The first step is cleansing. The reason for washing your face is to remove any makeup and dirt from your skin’s surface.
Using warm water to and a cleanser that is not too harsh, cleanse your face twice a day, once in the morning and again at night to wash away the day’s makeup and grime. Using natural skin care is best for your face; the products do not contain any chemicals that your skin will end up absorbing.
The key to having clear, healthy skin is to use cleanser that is best for skin type. If you have dry skin, look for cleansers that are moisturizing. If you have oily skin, choose one that is antibacterial. If your goal is natural skin care, you can opt for a cleanser that contains essential oils such as neem oil or tea tree oil. Be sure to pick one that is not too harsh or strong. Using a harsh cleanser on oily skin will dry it out, causing it to over compensate and produce more oil.
Exfoliate
Exfoliation is an important step in skin care. It involves removing the skin’s outer layer of dead cells using specific skin care products. Exfoliation can be done with chemical peels, acids, or scrubs. For those using a natural skin care regimen, there are many substances that can be used for scrubs, such as salt, sugar, and crushed up almond shells.
You should not exfoliate daily, one to two times a week is fine. Exfoliation removes the dead skin cells, and it takes a few days for dead cells to build up. Exfoliating more often can cause your skin to become irritated or even break out.
Tone
If you are going to use a toner, here is where you would use it. The purpose of a toner is to remove any dirt and makeup your cleanser did not, and to remove any film left behind by your cleanser. You do not want to strip every trace of oil from your face. That will cause your skin to overcompensate and create even more oil.
This step is not absolutely necessary. If you wish to use a toner because it makes your skin feel and look better, then use one. If you find a toner does nothing good for your skin, then you can skip this step. Remember to use a toner that is not too drying.
Moisturize
It is good for everyone, not matter what kind of skin you have, to moisturize. Moisturizes work by sealing moisture in the skin. Dry skin benefits the most from this, but even oily skin can be moisturized.
Be sure to choose the skin care products that are right for your skin type once again. If you have really dry skin, choose something extra creamy and moisturizing. If you have oily or acne prone skin, look for a moisturizer that is lightweight and oil free. Anything too creamy can cause clogged pores on skin that is already prone to blackheads and pimples.
You can also choose to get two different moisturizers: one for day and one for night. Your daytime moisturizer should be light, something that will layer will under makeup. Ideally, it should have some SPF in it. If not, it is a good idea to apply a non-greasy sunscreen last. Your night time moisturizer can be a bit heavier.
Having healthy skin that will remain beauty as you grow older is not hard. All it takes is a simple routine, using skin care products to suit your skin type.
